After a massively successful 2006 (releasing the #1, 3, and 4 singles of the year), an almost equally successful 2007 (releasing half of the yearly top ten singles), and a penchant for releasing something from one of its groups almost weekly and seeing them shoot straight to the top of the Oricon chart, you’d expect Johnny’s Entertainment to slow down on its hectic releases.
Or, not. Maybe they really do want to take over the world with their flashy costumes and Swedish-written pop.
Already less than two weeks into the new year, NEWS has already made headlines by holding shows in Tokyo Dome due to popular demand on a weekday, the first in Johnny’s to do so. They’ve already announced the release of a new single, “Taiyou no Namida” for February to accompany member Yamashita Tomohisa’s much awaited movie Kurosagi. Also, their previously suspended members have been taken out of the mysterious “trainee” position, with Uchi Hiroki being given a drama SP to return to the spotlight.
KAT-TUN member Kamenashi Kazuya, despite being skinniner than a tree branch, will play a boxer struggling with being overweight in the drama 1 Pound no Fukuin. What sounds like a horrible miscast aside, this puts KAT-TUN to release “Lips” on February 2.
Arashi, Hey!Say!JUMP, and SMAP also all have music releases schedules, and V6 and Tackey&Tsubasa have DVDs scheduled. Even a special group of daisenpai Matchy teaming up with Juniors Question?, will be releasing a single. Inevitably, the only three remaining groups that have just released media in late 2007 are taking a breather now and will be having some kind of release soon.
Stick that in with the multiple Johnny’s boys starring in dramas in the winter 2008 season and the continuing and soon-to-start concert tours. It looks like it’s going to be another year of Johnny’s Entertainment taking over Japan.
